Symptoms. What a complex word and familiar term for POTS individuals.
I want to take this opportunity to shed some light on a more functional perspective so you too can rethink your symptoms. A perspective that helped me personally years ago and has helped many others.
Clean bill of health.
Have you received a clean bill of health? To many this is frustrating; when it should be relieving. Allow your clean bill of health to grant you confidence with your healing journey. View your symptoms as nothing more then a rebellious character in a story. You must remember, it is your story to write. Believe that your current dysfunction, can change.
Do symptoms determine the course of your day?
If they do, you need to seek professional aid. The first phase of healing involves a proper exam and official diagnosis for your clean bill of health. I encourage you to see a functional neurologist. Google the closest in your area. If we are talking my home state of Michigan, check out Great Lakes Neurology (I have personally spoken with Dr. Brian; we share the same outlook on treatment). In order to see the change you desire, you must first build confidence and complete trust in your health status. A qualified medical professional can help you there.
Introduce the wanted change.
Phase 2 of healing involves therapy. Many physicians will offer a PDF of exercises and therapies to continue to do at home and encourage supervision under a licensed physical therapist or personal trainer. This treatment is simple, affordable and doable. Say that out loud to yourself, this treatment is simple, affordable and doable. There are no expensive supplements, additional medications or restrictive diets. Only therapies that introduce the desired change.
For me personally, I always knew that I was healthy. I just felt that my wires were crossed. Something wasn’t right. The moment I understood that my body was an efficient and amazingly involuntary machine that wanted nothing more then to thrive; was the moment my perspective changed. If you are currently experiencing occasional symptoms, rethink your symptoms like this: Your bodies essential state of fight or flight has been locked into auto piolet. Chronic states of fight or flight are taxing to our system and will lead to unwanted symptoms. Introduce the wanted change; slowly your body will build the trust it needs to disengage auto piolet and revert back to manual. Allowing to enter your ventral vagal state as needed.
The human body is wired for survival.
Every second of your day, your body is involuntarily responding to your state of existence. Isn’t that amazing? Every cell , signal and contraction formulated for one goal; life. You may not be where you want to be at this current time. Your heart may still sporadically race to help increase your blood volume. You may experience adrenaline surges, get shaky, feel exhausted or at random have feelings of heightened anxiety. You may still question if your body is capable, you may still be building the courage to ask for help. But here me out. If you take one thing away from this blog post; let it be this:
Know that you are capable of this desired change.
You are. I promise.
Sure it takes patience, understanding and consistent effort using movement, nourishment and rest to heal. These are all actions that you are wired for. Consistently strengthening the desired pathways and wires to the appropriate function.
Remember that rebellious character? Change the story with a dose of needed structure.
Rethink your symptoms.
