Have you ever heard the saying, “get out of your own way”? The first time I came across this statement was in my early 20s. I remember it hitting me funny. Immediately I was defensive. Thinking, “How can someone be in the way of themselves? If something is in the way it’s (insert a list of external variables here)”. Isn’t it funny how we become so quick to react? The immediate thoughts that flooded my brain included a list of physical objects, rules, past experiences etc. The reasons why I wasn’t involved, why I hadn’t applied for the job, why I wasn’t joining the group, and overall why I felt the way I did. The reason behind my particular situation had nothing to do with me. But in reality, it had everything to do me.
Goodbye comfort
I have been a part of many discussions lately. Whether it’d be meeting a health professional to talk about POTS, grabbing lunch, networking, entrepreneurial-based workshops, or professional trainings. I set a personal goal of scheduling one per month. Whether I am presenting or my name is on the list of attendees, I benefit. To me, it’s more than learning, speaking, and having educated discussions. It’s the act of change. It’s the act of stepping outside of my day-to-day routine ( aka comfort zone) that brings the opportunity for growth in relationships, knowledge, and my personal and professional well-being.
What is your take on comfort? Think about it. If everything stayed the same, would it even be comforting? Althought a familiar place of ease, comfort really is a temporary place. Think of your favorite pajamas, your go-to fuzzy socks or winter slippers. What about that old sweater? Comfortable right? If you had to wear that sweater, those socks or oversized pajamas every day would they still be comfortable? I think they’d get in the way. What if you want to go swimming? What if you had professional photos? They’d hold you back. I too, am a lover of comfort. But I hold more value in change. Although change can be uncomfortable it is worth it, because to me change means I am an active participant in this dynamic thing we call life. And I am truly living.

Burning Desire
In one way or another, we all long for change. I’m talking more then gas prices, the annoying volume that seems to just be stuck like glue to kids, or the way your loved one seems to leave their clothes on the ground within 3 feet of the hamper. We have burning desires for personal passions, bucket lists and long-term goals. Do you feel as though you are nurturing or currently making strides towards them? Or, is something holding you back? Are you stuck in analysis paralysis or are you taking action?
You can.
Do you recall that saying, where there is a will there is a way? Do you believe that? I do.
At this current moment, whatever your personal desire may be, whatever your goal whether big or small… chase it. When opportunity knocks at your door, are you ready to say yes? Let me tell you a secret. 80% of the time, you won’t think you are ready. But you are. Get out of your own way. Let go of the what-ifs, the doubt or even the fear that masks your potentional. Show up, step up, dust yourself off, and simply let the magic happen. The world is at your feet. Dive in.

Always in your corner,
Coach Kait
